E: Initially based on the interest in the past, studied

in a scientific manner. Coincided with romanticism

in art and literature. It was created with a romantic longing for what is distant, the history and nature.

Man romantically tuned ran away from the community,

he sought solitude, what personal, indigenous, popular and sought formlessness and freedom - as opposed

to coercion vocational and social simplicity bordering

 on kitsch. He was opposed to rationalism, frigid, arrogance characteristic of classicism. It was all dictated

 by the uncertainty to the present.

P: Początkowo opierał się na zainteresowaniu przeszłością, badaną w sposób naukowy. Zbiegł się z romantyzmem

w sztuce i literaturze. Powstał z romantycznej tęsknoty

za tym, co dalekie, za historią i naturą. Człowiek nastrojony romantycznie uciekał od zbiorowości, szukał samotności, tego co osobiste, rodzime i ludowe, szukał bezkształtności i dowolności – jako przeciwieństwa przymusu zawodowego i społecznego, prostoty graniczącej z kiczem. Był przeciwny racjonalizmowi, chłodowi, wyniosłości charakterystycznej dla klasycyzmu.

To wszystko było podyktowane niepewnością wobec teraźniejszości.

• romantic historicism (to about 1870),
• strict historicism (about 1870-1890)
• late historicism (after 1890).

E: Historicism romantic gradually dislodged classicism. The preferred styles were neo-Gothic and rundbogenstil, from approx. 1850 displaced by the Neo-Renaissance, however, associated with each other elements not found in the individual styles, so that the work does not mean a faithful imitation of individual styles, but their interpretation. There were also non-European motifs like vide - Moorish Revival architecture.

P: Historyzm romantyczny stopniowo wyparł klasycyzm. Preferowanymi stylami były neogotyk i styl arkadowy,

od ok. 1850 wypierany przez neorenesans, jednak wiązano ze sobą elementy nie występujące

 w poszczególnych stylach, tak że twórczość nie oznaczała wiernego naśladowania poszczególnych stylów,

 lecz ich interpretację. Pojawiały się też motywy pozaeuropejskie jak vide – styl neomauretański.

E: Strict historicism is based on the nineteenth-century scientific research. They were designed by combining

the elements allowed in a given style, rejecting their free interpretation. Produced canons described neostyles, were used with stencils. The preferred style became

a Neo-Renaissance.

P: Ścisły historyzm powstał na podstawie XIX-wiecznych badań naukowych. Projektowano łącząc elementy dozwolone w danym stylu, odrzucając ich swobodną interpretację. Wytworzono kanony opisywalnych neostylów, korzystano z wzorników. Preferowanym stylem stał się neorenesans.

E: Late historicism departs from the neo-renaissance and oriented towards the Neo-Baroque. Strict rules of the previous phase are replaced by a very loose interpretation of decorative elements, which are no longer defined strictly trite. There are numerous bay windows, domes,

as well as balconies. You can observe a tendency to splendor and monumentalism. Some of the decorative elements, such as flower, indicate already a nascent secession.

P: Późny historyzm odchodził od neorenesansu
i orientował się na neobaroku. Ścisłe przepisy poprzedniej fazy zostają zastąpione przez bardzo swobodną interpretację elementów dekoracyjnych, które nie są już określane ściśle szablonowo. Pojawiły się liczne wykusze, ryzlity, kopuły, a także balkony.
Można było zaobserwować dążność

do przepychu i monumentalizmu.

Niektóre elementy dekoracyjne, np. kwiatowe, wskazywały już na rodzącą się secesję.
