E: William Morris English painter, draftsman, architect,... designer, writer and poet. Very soon he came to the conclusion that the industrial civilization brings ugliness. First drew attention to the importance of the environment and the need to improve the living conditions of the workers. He believed industrial production for the misery and abandoned London to live in the country.

 

 

P: William Morris angielski malarz, rysownik, architekt, projektant, pisarz i poeta. Bardzo wcześnie doszedł do przekonania, że przemysłowa cywilizacja przynosi brzydotę. Pierwszy zwrócił uwagę na znaczenie środowiska i konieczność polepszenia warunków życia robotników. Uważał produkcję przemysłową za nieszczęście i porzucił Londyn, żeby zamieszkać na wsi.

E:He believed in the coming of the golden age, when industrialists replace artists who all running donate happiness and beauty. He lived in harmony with their convictions, trying to use them and spread.

 

 

P: Wierzył w nastanie złotego wieku, kiedy przemysłowców zastąpią artyści, którzy wszystkim pracującym zaofiarują szczęście i piękno. Żył w zgodzie ze swoimi przekonaniami, starając się je stosować i szerzyć.

E: Painter Burne-Jones, with whom he became friends at Oxford, did him so much that he abandoned his architectural studies for the painting.

Red House

E: Together with Philip Webb built a house near London, Red House, from the local red brick and according to the plan, which conditioned the structure of the facade of the functional layout of rooms. This was the first step leading to Art Nouveau.

P: Razem z Philipem Webbem zbudował sobie dom w pobliżu Londynu, Red House, z miejscowej czerwonej cegły i wedle planu, który uzależniał strukturę fasady od funkcjonalnego układu pomieszczeń. Był to pierwszy etap prowadzący do Art Nouveau.

E: The second stage was related to the creation of the London firm Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. under the banner of "Fine Art Workmen in Painting, Carving, Furniture and the Metals" in 1861. The shop of the company were everything that used to decorate the interior. The aim was to present utilitarian works of art.

 

P: Drugi etap wiązał się z powstaniem w Londynie firmy Morris, Marshall, Faulkner and Co. pod szyldem "Fine Art Workmen in Painting, Carving, Furniture and the Metals" w 1861. W sklepie tej firmy znajdowało się wszystko, co służy do dekoracji wnętrza. Celem było zaprezentowanie użytkowych dzieł sztuki.

E: Beautified also book arabesques adorning their margins, lines, modeled on the medieval illuminated manuscripts. Its principles expounded in the book ,, Decorative Arts, their relationships with life today".

 

 

P: Upiększał też książki zdobiąc ich marginesy arabeskami, liniami, na wzór iluminowanych manuskryptów średniowiecznych. Swoje zasady wyłożył w książce ,,Sztuki dekoracyjne, ich związki z życiem współczesnym”. 

 

 

 

 

 

E: He became interested in the book as an object of utility and designed a new form of the book. On a black background and white elements or white background

and black illustration. He used black and white printing, but sometimes combined with red font. Largely eliminated the free spaces in the book and the text placed in a richly decorated frame with initials.

 

 

P: Zainteresował się książką jako przedmiotem użytkowym i zaprojektował nową formę książki.

 Na czarnym tle białe elementy lub białe tło i czarna ilustracja. Stosował druk czarno-biały, ale czasem łączył z czcionką czerwoną. Zniwelował wolne przestrzenie

 w książce, a tekst umieszczał w bogato zdobionej ramce

z inicjałami.
